The Nikon D70 is ideal for digital infrared photography, mainly due to the power of your custom settings. I'll take a moment to show that the camera settings I use for my digital infrared photos and hope to help you achieve the best results from your Nikon digital SLR.
First - Get a tripod is almost a necessity for shooting infrared perfect, and the infrared filter of your choice - I like the Hoya R72.

White Balance
From my experience, the establishment of a white balance is a key to a good digital infrared photography with the Nikon D70. Because you are using a filter that blocks most "regulate" the camera light internal mechanism of the white balance can not accurately measure the temperature color of their environment. Since the foliage reflects infrared light, making it the brightest, whitest of the photo, must "calibrate" for the D70 you know that visible light is green like infrared target.
There are two ways to do so.

Then go to your menu, select the white balance,> preset> Photo Service> select Image> Use your line of control to navigate to the image of the herb (s hope that is the only card to make it more easy). Your menu should now say "this picture> set." You're ready to shoot IR?
