I confess I am a daughter of Canon. I have had other brands of digital cameras, but I was happier with my guns. Now owner a Canon Digital Rebel SLR and several lenses, a Canon Powershot ELPH (SD 110) and SD850 (IXUS) ELPH and two Panasonics and Sony.
For about a year, I bought the Powershot (SD850 IS) ELPH. It was love at first photo. Not only does this compact digital camera and super easy to use, but the images are excellent. I also like the ability to take video, which does not have my Canon Rebel. The SD850 IS is small but not fragile. It falls Also in my pockets and small bags of my jeans, which is nice. And the improvements over my old (but good) Canon ELPH 110 are impressive.
One of my favorite features, and the ability to take pictures in black and white or sepia, is the macro or close function. I have hundreds of photos of bees on flowers, dewdrops, ants, and shellfish. Several of them were destroyed and framed as art. This has little to do with my abilities and everything to do with the quality of the ELPH impressive. To see the veins in a leaf or pollen in the legs of a bee is amazing. I constantly see new things that I never noticed with the naked eye. You really see to believe.
Another thing to mention about ELPH it is much more durable than I expected. I carry mine in a belt neck, and sometimes key things is leaning or are likely to get something. Even after a year of my abuse, it is like new. There was also a time and it rained twice. I use my ELPH Shopping (taking pictures of items and prices then I'll remember the details below), take photos, maps online instead of print, take pictures of the products they need to collect at the store, and even a flashlight, a night walk my dog.
I love finding new ways to use it. It is also a valuable tool for insurance. Take pictures of valuables, the burn to CD and stick them together with relevant documents for an emergency.
